When you stay inside

Of course, the season determines the equipment needs, as well as whether it is staying in a lodge or in a tent, but let’s start with the equipment list first IF you are camping in the summer and staying in a lodge. So this style of packing does not include overnight stays in tents, but e.g. sheds and rural accommodations.

Packing list

  • Bike bag or dry bag
  • Change of clothes, e.g. change of t-shirt, change of trousers or shorts, underwear.
  • Rain clothes, e.g. a light waterproof suit, or a raincoat
  • Swimwear and travel towel
  • Hygiene supplies
  • First aid kit
  • Wheel tire repair tools + spare inner tube
  • Map / gps
  • Charging cable (for phone / gps), backup power supply
  • Snacks
  • A drinking bottle
  • Helmet, bike lock (and octopus if you pack in a dry bag).
  • Sunglasses?
  • Camera?

There’s everything I personally carry with me, e.g. on 3-6 day bike trips. In addition, a cell phone that runs the GPS function, a notebook and a pen, and a camera tripod are also included. I don’t have side bags on my current bike, because I ride a mountain bike with a light rack added. I pack a dry bag in it, which I fasten with octopuses. The front bag is 8 liters roomy and it carries everything I want to take with me on a break, e.g. it’s good to charge a mobile phone during a lunch and coffee break.

The front bag is a handy bag anyway. The dry bag, on the other hand, is attached to the deck with octopuses and is often removed only when arriving at the accommodation. Unless the swimming guys happen to be there..

“Beware of drug addiction. Do everything in moderation. This is especially true of the internet and the couch. The physical world is ultimately the source of all inspiration. In other words, if all else fails, go for a bike ride.”

Accommodation in tents

Here’s the equipment list IF you’re hiking with your own accommodation, and you’re not using cottage or farm accommodation. At the same time assuming that you cook yourself with your own cooker.

Packing list

  • Bike bag, front bag and dry bag – usually all of these, or some of these
  • Change of clothes, e.g. change of t-shirt, change of trousers or shorts, underwear.
  • Rain clothes, e.g. a light waterproof suit, or a raincoat
  • Tent / hammock / other accommodation
  • Sleeping mat and sleeping bag
  • Camping stove, gas / spirits
  • Cutlery (mug, mug, link knife, plate) and washing utensils
  • Swimwear and travel towel
  • Hygiene supplies
  • First aid kit
  • Wheel tire repair tools + spare inner tube
  • Map / gps (or both)
  • Charging cables and backup power source
  • Snacks (nuts and muesli bars do not melt in the heat)
  • Drink bottle x 2
  • Helmet, bike lock (and octopus if you pack in a dry bag).
  • Sunglasses?
  • Camera?

In addition, depending on the destination, you may need:

  • Water purifier / several drinking bottles
  • Tick tweezers / tick plasters
  • Headlamp / tent light

Everything I carry with me on e.g. a week’s bike trips. In addition, of course, there is a mobile phone that runs the GPS function as well as a notebook, a pen and a little reading. When it comes to socializing, it’s always a good idea to put your cell phone, GPS and backup power source in a nearby plug for charging.

There is always very little change of clothes: light long pants, thin merino wool change socks and a t-shirt, a pair of underwear, a fleece hoodie and a compact down jacket, a thin beanie and mittens. In addition, my rain clothes include a light shell jacket and pants, which I can use in other ways if necessary – even if it’s not raining.

Happy travels!
